Be A Kid Again

Shiloh

What do you know, another photo of my dog. She is just too good, I can’t help it! I took this photo while working on an assignment for another class. I love it because my brother’s hand was not supposed to be in the shot but I am actually glad it is. I basically love this picture because of all that is wrong with it. Shiloh’s tongue is dirty, and her eyes are closed and her head is turned back towards the camera while my brother’s hand is pointing towards the landscape.

Something about this photo just makes me so happy though. It reminds me of being a kid. Someone was always trying to tell me what to do but I didn’t have a care in the world. All I cared about was playing in the dirt and having fun.

This was a good reminder for me. College is stressful. Being an adult is stressful. And if you’re like me, living alone hundreds of miles away from all of my family and friends is sometimes stressful. But no matter where I am at in life I have always been able to find the simple joys that I also found when I was a child. I try to always be up for letting go of stress and just having fun. This is important and people should do it more often.

Value of Time

I took this photo while working on my Available Light assignment. I ended up not using this photo or this clock for my final image but I still like the photo. The soft lace draws me to the clock and instantly I am thinking about what the clock means.

Time. Time is such a valuable part of life. Time is a bit of a dictator. We let time command everything we do. We have to. Seems like everything we do has a due date. We are told constantly to manage our time wisely. Often it is easy to brush off that warning; but time really is important. If we are not careful, we will all wake up in twenty years and wonder where time has gone. So don’t be fooled. Take time seriously and don’t waste it!

New Beginnings

Carolina Beach, North Carolina

This photo was taken at Carolina Beach during a sunrise in May. I love the contrast of the deep blue of the sea against the orange and the pink of the sky. I love that you can just barely spot the sun through the clouds but you can see the rays as they extend upwards, leading to the bird flying.

In many ways, a sunrise represents the start of something new; a new day, full of new opportunities and new lessons to be learned. To go along with my previous post, not only does life present obstacles but it also offers chances of growth. A sunrise is a beautiful reminder that no matter what happened yesterday, you can always make today a better yesterday for tomorrow.

Lessons Being Learned

Sometimes life isn’t always what it seems. It may feel like you are looking into darkness at times. You may think you are on the right path and not realize there is a fence in the shadows that you can’t see, a fence keeping you from where you thought you were going. You have to keep strong and know where you are headed. Though you might not see it right away, there may be a gate to get through the fence and it makes you realize you made the right choice to keep going and not let anything hold you back. I hope this photo represents these words that are so dear to my heart.

I call Shiloh “my little wolf”. Wolves, to me, are animals of great courage and determination. In many ways, Shiloh is my wolf of courage. I learn from her every day.

Home on the Range

Shiloh, Siberian husky

This is my Siberian husky, Shiloh. Her name was inspired from one of my favorite movies from my childhood, Shiloh, about a little beagle.

Shiloh is my favorite subject to photograph. I originally got my inspiration from the Instagram page of a wolf/husky/malamute mix pup @loki that has captured so many peoples hearts. Though photographing a dog (a husky nonetheless) can be extremely difficult, it can also be very rewarding when you get “that shot”.

I live on a small farm where me and Shiloh love to explore. Of course I always have my camera too! Every time we walk by the pasture, the cows run up to greet her. They are her best friends. This image captures her sweet personality as she sits here waiting for them to come say hello.

Shiloh is somewhat camera shy and I can rarely catch her actually looking at the camera. This photo is amusing because I called her name and she just gave me a slight side glance. Don’t worry, we’re working on that. 😉

The Journey Begins

Welcome to my blog!

My name is Natalie Thompson. I am a student at Randolph Community College in Asheboro, North Carolina. I will be graduating in 2020 with an Associates Degree in Photographic Technology. I am from northeastern Pennsylvania, following my dream to become a professional photographer. I love being a photographer and learning new things every day. I am a “mom” to my best girl, a Siberian husky named Shiloh. I love adventuring in the outdoors with my camera and my dog.

This is a photograph I made for a Painting With Light assignment for my Small Format Photography class in my spring semester. I red gelled light on the left side and blue gelled light on the right side. I put a few pops of ungelled light in the middle. I then used a flashlight to write the word ‘america’. I did all of this in less than thirty seconds.

I hope you will enjoy seeing my work as I continue to better myself as a photographer.

Thank you!_MG_7417
